Foundation Manifesto

  1. We, as women artists of Korea of Korean painting, agreed to found the Women’s Association of Korean Painting with a view to promoting development of Korean painting, which has been ceaselessly maintaining the tradition, raising status of female artists of Korean painting and assuring to expand friendship, rights and interests among members.
  2. Korean female artists, who had been limited in the frame of “boudoir culture” by social restrictions and bonds of thinking, now break the conventional concept through painstaking efforts of pioneer artists of old generation. Inheriting their spirit, we play a central role by contributing to development of today’s Korean painting and Korean art culture.
  3. Today’s society of diversification constantly requires limitless competitions, while the world with progressive thoughts and progress of technology develops the era of unprecedented harmony and communication. This way, the values of the old time pale into insignificance creating new values continuously. Before this situation, it is inevitable that women and Korean painting, the concept of the weak are equally required to have a new meaning in the new era of the open world and harmony.
  4. As women, the half of world population, as Koreans of the world, as Korean painting artists, the important part of the world art culture, and as artists in charge of social welfare of beauty and abundance, we fully realize that our mission is highly vital. Therefore, through this Association, we will make an effort not only to contribute to development of Korean painting, but also to give artists of old generation a feeling of proud and reward of our achievement, build hope and pride in artists of coming generation taking the path as Korean painting artists, and develop self-respect and confidence in ourselves. With this in mind, we strengthen our resolutions as follows as members of the Women’s Association of Korean Painting.
